On The Fence

After talking my dear husband's ear off about a wildy-debated U.S. political topic, I decided that I would start blogging again...but this time I won't be posting cute pictures of my kid (although, he is adorable) or my attempt at a new recipe (I can cook, but it's not blogworthy) but instead my sociopolitical view of the world.  I constantly find myself fearful to post on Facebook about some issue about which I have a strong opinion. I have always need more virtual thinking space than Twitter or Facebook allow to tell my side of the story. When people post, it just seems to generate misunderstanding and hate, so I avoid it. This policy has never failed me, but I feel I have been quiet long enough. It's time to jump in through a different medium.

No, this is not a rant blog or comment board; Rush Limbaugh has that covered for everyone. Rather, this blog is inspired by other blogs by like-minded Christians--people who I wish I could befriend in person, people I wish I went to church with or taught school with, people like Evan.  Their Godly viewpoints made me want to contribute to the conversation. I have found these amazing people through a frenzy of re-posts of a blog entry and have been so blessed by their words. They have made me feel more comfortable with my sometimes on-the-fence feelings and in doing so, have inadvertently helped me articulate my true feelings on a topic.

You may not be this way at all. You may know how you feel about an issue and be able to tell me all about it immediately in a public forum, no less. Not so with me. I tend to lean towards one side, and subsequently struggle with the complexity of the passionate and completely valid feelings of the other party.

So begins an experiment, a kind and open discussion of the issues of the day. (Insert monacle and cup of tea here.)

I haven't done much other than taken care of some "window dressing," but I wanted to post a welcome before I finally tucked myself in for the night. Jet lag is a bummer.

God Bless,
Jeanette
